Swatragh 2-07 Lavey 2-09

Dominant Davitts Somehow Snatch Defeat From Brink Of Victory

Swatragh opened their Ulster league program on Tuesday past with a home fixture against local side Lavey. Swatragh produced an excellent performance and were left scratching their heads wondering how they managed to lose the game.

Lavey played in the first half with wind advantage but struggled to take control. Swatragh were holding firm in defence, and with Ruairi Convery deployed at full forward were looking threatening in attack.

With time almost up in the first half there was just a point between the sides, and the Davitts were looking well set with wind advantage to follow in the second half. However Lavey went for goal with a close range free and despite the initial being saved they were able to bundle the rebound home and claim a four point interval advantage.

In the second half Swatragh completely dominated the exchanges. However with Convery and Quinn both guilty of missing from placed balls they struggled to narrow the gap. The away side only managed sporadic forays up the field and were only able to add three points to their first half total. Despite being on top in all sectors of the field, Swatragh inaccuracy was to cost them dear, and ended up losing by two points.

It was a disappointing result for the Davitts, but there were many encouraging sign in the performance. However, they know that sixteen wides are far too many to shoot to hold any hope of victory.
