U16 FC - Swatragh 1-07 Castledawson 1-06
The Swatragh U16 Football panel began there championship campaign in Lavey on thursday night against a very competitive Castleawson team. Although Swatragh opened the scoring with a John McAtamney point, Castledawson went on to dominate proceedings in the first half winning breaking ball and looking like the hungrier team. They went in at half time leading on a scoreline of Castledawsom 1-05, Swatragh 0-03.
The second half brought about a complete reversal in Swatraghs performance, were they showed great heart and committment to reduce the deficit to one point game with 10 minutes to go, with some good scores from Danny McCusker, Duirmuid Dillon, Mark McAtamney and Mark Donnelly.
The turning point of the game came when John McAtamney found the net to give Swatragh a 2 point advantage, with 5 minutes remaining. The Swatragh defence, who restricted the Castledawson team to one point in the second half, had to withstand a late onslaught but held out in the end for a one point victory and to proceed to the semi final against either Glen/Slaughtneil.
