Slaughtneil 1-08 Swatragh 5-12

For the Davitts dual players there was little time to lick their wounds as they were straight back into action the following night, this time in the hurling league opener at Slaughtneil. Thankfully on this occasion Swatragh produced a performance more akin to their ability.

This game was really over as a contest by half time as the Davitts racked up four opening period goals. With Michael Conway not fully fit he was deployed at full forward and caused havoc in and around the square. With Michael Kirkpatrick & Dermot McNicholl working well in tandem with Conway, there were goals to be had, and they duly came from Conway (2), McNicholl & Kirk.

This opening period onslaught gave Swatragh a commanding 4-06 to 0-05 half time lead.

The second half was a much closer affair as the home side endeavoured to somehow get back into the game. However with Ruairi Convery accurate as ever from dead balls they could never substantially reduce the deficit.

Slaughtneil did manage a consolation goal but it was cancelled out by a late strike from Eugene McGuckin. This was a very good opening display by the Davitts, with some spells of great hurling, particularly in the first half.
