Swatragh 0-11 Ballinascreen 0-17

In what was easily the Davitts worst performance of the season, Swatragh were soundly beaten by a more committed ‘screen side. The Davitts seemed to lack the intensity they had displayed in earlier matches, and despite some brief glimmers of resistance, never looked like winning from early in the game.

The first half set the pattern for the game, with Ballinascreen faster to the ball and displaying a much crisper first touch. Swatragh were mainly second best all over the field, although some stout defending from Paddy O’Kane & Martin Dillon meant the gap at half time was a manageable 3 points; 0-09 to 0-06.

Alas, the second half followed the same pattern to the first. ‘Screen were much sharper to the ball, and it was this seeming difference in pace that mainly separated the sides. Whether this was in real terms or down to lethargy on the Davitts part time will tell.

Eugene McGuckin continued to battle up front, but his and others efforts were in vain as Swatragh made no real impact on the game. Ballinascreen taped over some fine points and had no need to go in search of a goal, while sporadic scores from Swatragh kept the score line somewhat respectable.

Swatragh will need to improve significantly in their remaining league fixtures if they wish to carry any momentum into the championship.
