Davitts Claim First Ever League Title
Kevin Lynchs 1-09 Swatragh 2-09
Swatragh claimed their first ever senior league title with a hard earned win at Kevin Lynch Park. Both sides played their part in a tough encounter but Swatragh managed to hold on for the win.
The first half of this game was evenly contested with both sides exchanging points. Defences were by and large on top with both sets of forwards getting little room to manoeuvre. Towards the end of the half Kevin Lynchs made a decisive move when a loose ball was lashed to the Swatragh net, giving the home side the advantage at the interval.
The second half continued in a cagey manner with neither side completely dominating. The decisive period of the match came midway through the half. Kevin Lynchs were awarded a penalty after a clear foul in the square. The resulting shot was magnificently saved and the Davitts cleared the ball to the opposite end of the pitch and won a free on the 21. Michael Kirkpatrick fired to the net – turning down the easy point on offer. Buoyed by this six point swing, Swatragh struck the net again soon after when Paddy McQuillan brilliantly released Malachy Scullen who finished with aplomb. The Davitts now led by five points going into the last ten minutes, and despite a couple of scares held on for their first ever senior title.
Congratulations to all players and management on this fine achievement.
