Ruairi Convery opened the scoring after three minutes with a well taken point and was then in the right place five minutes later to knock the ball to the unguarded net, when a Michael Kirkpatrick effort eluded the advancing keeper.

Adie Quigg lifted Slaughtneil with a couple of points, Cathal Doherty catching the eye in defence. However, with Seamus Bradley and Conor Quinn outstanding in the central defensive positions, Swatragh extended their lead to 1-09 to 0-05 by half time, Michael Kirkpatrick scoring four marvellous points in a five minute spell in the second quarter.

Twenty seconds into the second half Jarlath Mulholland fired home a close range shot to cut the lead to four points but, with Ruairi Convery reeling off a string of points-he finished with 1-10-the Davitt’s seemed to have secured victory when midfielder Cathal McQuillan pointed in the 60th minute.

However Fergal McEldowney scored a second Slaughtneil goal two minutes into added time to leave a point between the sides but Swatragh held on for only their second ever senior championship win, Kevin Lynch’s their semi final opponents.
