Davitts Pipped At The Post In Open Game

Swatragh 2-11 Banagher 3-09

In an entertaining game played at Davitt Park on Saturday afternoon Swatragh's second string lost out by the minimum against a strong Banagher lineup. Both sides took some excellent scores in tricky conditions; adapting well to the crossfield breeze.

Swatragh will look back on the two soft goals they conceded in the second half with regret as they controlled the game for long periods. With Shiels and McKeage in fine form in the full back line, Declan McNicholl controlling the centre and the McGuckin cousins in scoring form up front, things were shaping well for Swatragh at both ends of the field.

However momentary lapses in concentration were ruthlessly punished by Banagher, and their third goal decided the game. It was hard luck on the Davitts who had put in both a committed and skillful performance. Paddy McQuillan was back in scoring form; feeding of the breaks from Dave in the full forward line.

Pascal McKay was covering acres of ground in the middle of the field, where he was ably assisted by Martin Dillon. There were many encouraging signs in the performance, and several of these players will be hoping to make their mark before the end of the season.
