Reserve Football
The reserves got their league campaign underway with a tricky assignment away to Banagher. Despite the inclement weather leading up to the game, the pitch at Fr. McNally Park was in excellent condition. With the wind at their backs in the first half the Davitts were able to build a six point interval thanks to an opportunist goal from Ciaran Quinn and some fine scores form play from Marty’s Quinn and Turner and a couple of long range efforts from Ruairi O’Hagan. At the interval Swatragh 1-08 – Banagher 1-02.
The inevitable fight back from Banagher did not take long to materialise in the second half. With the experienced Ryan Lynch accurate from frees they began to peg the Davitts back. With two minutes remaining on the clock they drew level from another Lynch placed ball, and indeed they could have been ahead at this stage had it not been for stout defending from Captain James McKeagney ably assisted by Gerard Turner and Eugene McGuckin in the Davitt backline.
With time almost up the Davitts launched one last attack when Marty Turner won a free in the middle of the field. He played a quick ball inside to the lurking Seamus Bradley whose speculative effort crept inside the post off the upright to hand the away side victory. It was a hard earned but well deserved victory for the Davitts who have the campaign off to an encouraging start. Final score – Swatragh 1-13 Banagher 1-12
Note: Great to see the nippy Conor Quinn making his football comeback after an absence of a few seasons. You can never have too many pacey defenders!
