Minors Make Confident Start

Swatragh Minor hurlers got their season of to a winning start with a convincing victory over Eoghan Rua.  Playing into a strong breeze in the first half, the Davitt boys took some time to settle but when Robert McWilliams broke through to score a fine goal this eased the pressure, the team relaxed and played some fine hurling.  Dermot McNicholl nipped in for a second goal and with points from Seamus McFlynn (2) Gary McPeake and Ryan McCusker; Swatragh took control of the game.  During this period the defence was under pressure but coped well, with McNicholl and Dillon dominant in the centre and the ever vigilant Paddy Dillon tidying up in the fullback line, they held the opposition scoreless.


With wind advantage in the second half the management used the opportunity to look at the entire panel.  Players to impress were John Mc Atamney, Ciaran Cassidy and a dominant midfield of Donald McKay and Johnny Warnock.  Near the end the ever improving Spiros Papachristopalos nipped in for a fine goal.  The captain for this year is Sean McNicholl with Vice Captain Malachy O’Hagan.
